Dorado Andaluz

Risa DA is a special filly. Sired by one of our Grand Prix stallions Botijo M and out of our lovely I1 (schooling all GP) mare Galana DA who is herself sired by our other Grand Prix stallion Fenix XXXIII,  Risa DA was absolutely bred for the dressage court. But this adorable chestnut filly is also special in that she was born quite premature. Risa DA, or Little Bug as she is affectionately known as, was the smallest foal we have ever had. She weighed about 30 pounds at birth compared to the 60-90 pounds most of our foals are born weighing. She could not stand up on her own for the first three days after birth and was picked up by the Dorado Andaluz support staff every 45 minutes, 24 hours a day for 3 days. She required a plasma transfusion, antibiotics and tube feeding as well as a constant monitoring that first week. She was a few weeks old before going out into a private pasture. Risa would walk between her mother's front legs and nurse from the directly under Galana's belly. Risa is expected to be completely normal at maturity and has already become such a part of the family. Risa loves people and is so easy. Galana DA got the award for best maiden mare ever, allowing us and our veterinarians to do whatever needed to be done. Risa DA will remain at Dorado Andaluz.
